El Menea; town of 50,000 inhabitants located some 270 km south of Ghar-daia.
Very close to its oasis of 200,000 palm trees, is the Saint-Joseph church, the only church in the Sahara as a monument, it is next to the tomb of “Charles de Foucauld” in the heart of a Christian cemetery.
It measures 27 meters long, 14 meters wide at the transept. Its two symme-trical towers are 15 meters high, built only with materials found on site: stone, lime, plaster, sand from the Grand Erg. The capitals are sculpted in plaster; the stained glass windows, the furnishings, the altar, are the work of local craftsmen.
This ocher-colored church is a stopover for many tourists going to Timi-moun and Tamanrasset.

المنيعة; مدينة يبلغ عدد سكانها 50 ألف نسمة .تقع على بعد 270 كلم جنوب غرداية.
بالقرب من واحتها التي تضم 200 ألف نخلة، تقع كنيسة القديس جوزيف، وهي الكنيسة الوحيدة في الصحراء كنصب تذكاري، وهي بجوار قبر « شارل دي فوكو » في قلب مقبرة مسيحية.
يبلغ طولها 27 مترًا وعرضها 14 مترًا عند الجناح. يبلغ ارتفاع برجيه المتماثلين 15 مترًا، تم بناؤها بمواد موجودة في الموقع: الحجر والجير والجص والرمل من العرق الكبير. التيجان منحوتة بالجبس. النوافذ الزجاجية الملونة والمفروشات هي من عمل الحرفيين المحليين.
تعتبر هذه الكنيسة محطة توقف للعديد من السياح المتجهين إلى تيميمون وتمنراست.
